Acknowledgement

On April 12, 2020 Appalachian Bible College signed and returned to the Department of Education, the Certification and Agreement for the Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. ABC intends to use no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

Funds Received

ABC has received $119,491 from the Department of Education pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.

Funds Distributed

As of May 28, 2020 ABC has distributed $61,420 in Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

Estimated Number of Eligible Students

The estimated total number of students at the institution eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 123.

Number of Recipients

As of May 28, 2020, 114 students have received Emergency Financial Aid Grants

Methodology

The initial distribution of Emergency Financial Aid Grants was made available to all Title IV eligible, undergraduate, degree-seeking students with the amount based on academic status and housing status during the spring semester of 2020. An online form was provided to students to request the Emergency Financial Aid Grant for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus (including eligible expenses under a student’s cost of attendance, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care).

The amounts distributed to students who requested the grant were allocated as follows:

  • On April 24, 2020 an announcement was posted to ABC's campus portal reminding students to review and complete the online form for requesting the grant.
  • On April 24, 2020 a verbal announcement was made during the virtual chapel reminding students to review and complete the online form for requesting the grant.

Funds Distributed

As of September 30, 2020 ABC has distributed $119,491 in Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

Estimated Number of Eligible Students

The estimated total number of students at the institution eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 188.

As of September 30, 2020, 151 students have received Emergency Financial Aid Grants

Methodology

The second distribution of Emergency Financial Aid Grants was made available to all Title IV eligible, undergraduate, degree-seeking students with the amount based on academic status and housing status in the fall semester of 2020. An online form was provided to students to request the Emergency Financial Aid Grant for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus (including eligible expenses under a student’s cost of attendance, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care).

  • On July 24, 2020 a letter was sent to students explaining the Emergency Financial Aid Grant, the eligibility requirements, the estimated grant amount, and how they could request the grant.
  • During Student processing at the start of the fall semester, students that had not completed the form were encouraged to do so.
  • On August 17, 2020 an announcement was posted to ABC's campus portal reminding students to review and complete the online form for requesting the grant. A deadline to complete the form was set for August 23.
  • On August 25, 2020 an announcement was posted to ABC's campus portal announcing that the deadline to apply had been extended to August 28.
  • On August 26, 2020 a verbal announcement was made during chapel reminding students to review and complete the online form for requesting the grant and that the deadline to complete the form was August 28.
  • Between August 24, 2020 and August 28, 2020 personal emails were sent to potentially eligible students who had not yet completed the grant request form.

CRRSAA and ARP (a)(1) and (a)(4) - March 31, 2021

Acknowledgement

Appalachian Bible College has signed and returned to the Department of Education, the Certification and Agreement and intends to use the applicable amount of funds designated under the CRRSAA and ARP (a)(1) and (a)(4) programs to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
