The best way to prepare for teaching English as a second language (TESL) is through an intensive combination of classroom instruction and practicum. By providing both aspects, facilitated by skilled instructors, the accredited TESOL training at ABC is superior to online TESOL programs. Weekly tutoring of a non-English speaker in West Virginia will give you a chance to practice what you’ve learned, and a 4-6 week overseas internship will equip you with invaluable experience.
A TESOL missionary cares about much more than just his students' academic well-being. In fact, teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) is simply a tool to use in meeting their spiritual needs. Appalachian Bible College will provide you with a solid foundation of Bible and theological studies, along with missions classes which will develop your sense of Jesus' Great Commission and how to accomplish it. Even in the TESOL courses at ABC, the focus is always on evangelism and discipleship.
